Day at Logan Square

Chicago still has a few sunny days left in it.

Around Thanksgiving we survived the first Chicago snow. It was a rude awakening of what the next 5 months will be like, but it is nothing that I haven't already experienced in college when walking to classes.

We have been lucky with some nice weather recently (who expected 60 degrees in December?!) To make the most of it, my friends and I decided to explore the Logan Square area of Chicago. It is a bit west of our normal stomping grounds so we weren't too familiar with the area.

Being the morning, we had to stop for coffee. We went to Intelligentsia coffee & tea, which is a very hip coffee bar.  The names of the beans were a bit intimidating (I really only know Starbucks roasts). I got a simple pour over because I didn't understand what any of the other fancy concoctions were. Needless to say, if you love a good cup of coffee you should check it out.

We then ventured over to the Illinois Centennial Memorial column, also known as the Logan Square monument.

The monument was built in 1918 stands in the middle of Logan Square to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Illinois' Statehood.

It is in a pretty park-like area with views of downtown Chicago. The area is very trendy restaurants, boutiques, coffee shops, and the Logan theatre.

And among all of this, there is a giant 'Aloha' movie billboard that overlooks the square (sadly I do not have a picture to show it) that provides the perfect amount of irony and ridiculousness.

We then walked down some of the streets that had quaint apartments.

I definitely enjoy being able to spend time outside. I walk around a lot in the city (because I don't have a car) and weather is a pretty important factor for my commutes. It has played a huge part in acclimating to the city.

I can't believe it is almost the new year! So many more exciting adventures await as I get to know Chicago.

10 Things to be Thankful for

Happy Thanksgiving!

I am home in Cleveland and happy to celebrate the holiday with my family.

With many life changes, I have been reflecting on the numerous things I am thankful for this year.

1. Family
2. Friends who are loving and supportive despite their distance.
3. My boyfriend who happens to be a great photographer and best bud.
4. New friends and new experiences living in a different city.
5. A job which I love!
6. My health and safety.
7. Financial security (even though this sometimes feels rocky).
8. Time off and weekends.
9. My education.
10. Blogging, and everyone who helps make chelseasglossary.com successful.

I can easily take things for granted and get wrapped up in the day to day stress (not having enough money, missing my train, worried about the weather, etc..) when there is so much to appreciate.

Thank you to everyone who has supported, inspired, and encouraged who I am today.

Fall Days with Plaid and Patterns

I love fall. And even though it is November, we still are having some beautiful weather in Chicago. It is enjoyable to walk outside during my commute to work in the morning.

Another one of my favorite parts of fall is layering with scarves.

This fuchsia and tan blanket scarf is perfect for keeping cozy.

I purchased this scarf from Charming Charlie, and it is one of my favorites.

Is styled this scarf over a black blouse with a subtle pattern.

Layering with patterns may seem intimidating, but I stuck with a simple and small pattern for my top, and picked up the fuchsia in the shirt with the larger plaid pattern of the scarf.

Contrasting colors and patterns when layering is a fun way to add variety into your fall wardrobe.

I purchased this shirt from Hollister.  I usually don't shop there, but they had some nice shirts on sale that were different from what I remembered from the 7th grade.

I like the detail on the bottom of the shirt, and the asymmetrical cut.

My boots are Sam Edelman that I purchased last February at the Nordstrom Half-Yearly sale.

This simple cross-body bag is from Forever 21. It has come in handy over the years, and I never have to worry about protecting it for the weather.

I love that this outfit is comfortable yet a polished look for fall.

I have officially been in Chicago for a month. It has been a whirlwind adjusting and settling in, which  is why I haven't been good about blogging.

Lately, I have been focused on trying to keep up with the warm days and the freezing windy days. It may be 70 degrees, and then 30 degrees the next day. I am constantly either too cold, or sweating, but overall it has been nice.

With Thanksgiving next week, I will be heading back to Cleveland to spend time with my family. I am excited to be home and to relax for a week.

I can't believe that the holidays are already here! Are you doing anything exciting to celebrate?

Until next time,

Moving to Chicago + Other Life Updates

I am the worst blogger ever. I have been very busy because of so many recent changes in my life.

The first thing is that I am officially living in Chicago! I have always wanted to live in the city, and I am so excited that it is now a reality. However, this whole move was extremely unexpected.

I came to Chicago two weeks ago for job interviews, and ended up getting a job offer that same week. I had planned to move to Chicago within the coming months, but I wasn't prepared to make the official move so soon.

The second reason why I haven't blogged is because I have been living out of a suitcase. I don't have many of my clothes with me, and I have been making due with what brought (luckily my job is casual so I don't need any business clothing).

The third reason is that I just started my job at a public relations agency last week where I am doing social media (which I love). That has been my main focus right now and when I come home from work I am ready to just relax and get away from the computer.

Lastly, I have been busy trying to find a place to live. I found an apartment and a roommate in the past week, and now I am officially bringing all my things from Cleveland to Chicago this coming weekend. Somehow this big puzzle is all coming together!

Dress: American Eagle | Necklace: Nordstrom Rack | Booties: Pac Sun | Purse: Kate Spade

I plan to blog more once I am settled into my new place. These pictures were from when it was a little warmer in Chicago, but still I love this dress for fall!
