What I Wore: New York City

This is an outfit I wore for an interview in New York City when I was there last week. The interviews were fashion oriented, therefore I wanted to show my personal taste but also keeping the outfit in a neutral tone with just a pop of colorful accents.

I love the bold black and white houndstooth pattern of this dress. The geometric graphic make it fun to pair other pieces with. To break up the pattern I wore a simple grey blazer and black tights to carry out the black in the dress, elongate the body and give a rest for the eye.

Dress: Charming Charlie
Blazer: Silence & Noise - Urban Outfitters

I wore my simple leather handbag in a greyish-beige color to continue with the neutral base.

Bag: Kate Spade

The statement necklace has accents of a lavender color as well as a plain white crystal which are facetted in a half-flower shape. The colors blend well with the dress, and pick up the grey tones in the jacket.

I would highly recommend checking out the clearance at high end retailers for jewelry because usually you can find a nice quality, well made pieces for a fraction of the cost. I love Nordstrom Rack (which sells Nordstrom designers on sale) which is where I found this piece.

For shoes, I wore a darker plum-purple colored suede pump. They pick up the purple color in the necklace, and tie the outfit together. These heels are from H&M and are a great colorful piece to add to your winter wardrobe (plus they are actually comfortable to walk in). For an inexpensive shoe, you can tell they are a higher quality based on the material on the outside and interior lining.

This is an outfit that I would wear again for formal sorority meetings or any other business casual event. It is comfortable while still looking professional.

By taking the blazer off you can easily transition this dress into a night time look. This dress outfit is great for holiday parties or get togethers, or with boots can be a fun casual look.

I hope you are all are prepared for the big Holiday week! I know I still have some last minute things to do (leave it to me to procrastinate...)

Until next time,
